Senior Wide Receiver Kendrick Wiggins
9/24/08
Southern Durham's Wiggins honored by Carolina Panthers

Kendrick Wiggins is a wide receiver at Southern Durham, but this week the Carolina Panthers have selected Wiggins as a Community Captain.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound senior has received an offer from East Carolina, but is also receiving interest from North Carolina and Wake Forest.

Wiggins has put up big numbers already this season. With just four games under his belt, Wiggins is responsible for 500 net yards.

As a senior, Wiggins has a 3.5 grade point average, putting him in the top 15 percent of his class at Southern Durham. An honor roll student, Wiggins received the Durham County AVID Academic Scholarship last school year.

Wiggins has been involved with the Durham County Department of Socail Services volunteer program since he was in the sixth rade. He has also worked with the "Share Your Christmas" event, as well as the back to school supply drive in Durham County. Wiggins also works with the Chi Omega Lambda Fraternity, and the Durham County Student Action Corp.

The Carolina Panthers will selected ten Community Captains throughout the high school football season. Each Community Captain receives a Community Captain jersey, and they will also have the chance to participate in community outreach programs with members of the Carolina Panthers. Wiggins, along with the other nine winners, will be honored at the Dec. 14 game against the Denver Broncos.

Other winners this season include Ty Howle of Bunn High School, and John Coleman of West Florence High School in South Carolina.
